9:00am – 9:30am • Power BI Setup & Overview – Walk through the fundamentals of connecting Power BI to your Catalyst data. Learn how to structure your environment, access key datasets, and prepare your workspace for efficient reporting. Presenter: Jimmy Kohl

9:30am – 11:00am • Power BI 101 – Explore visual best practices and learn how to use slicers, tables, cards, and conditional formatting to tell compelling stories with data. Discover tips and techniques to create effective, insightful dashboards.

11:00am – 12:00pm • Data Preparation & Structuring – Explore how to use Smartload to prepare data for analysis. Understand how to leverage the power of the Cube Configuration feature within Catalyst to structure cubes effectively and utilize DAX.

Jimmy Kohl
Finance Manager, EBM

Jimmy brings a strong background in FP&A, business intelligence, and data-driven decision-making to his role as Finance Manager at EBM Software. He works closely with clients to transform financial reporting and planning using Catalyst, Power BI, and custom Excel models. His ability to bridge financial strategy with technical execution helps clients drive more actionable insights from their data.

Before joining EBM, Jimmy held finance and analytics roles at two Blackstone portfolio companies — LivCor and Alight — and at Feldco, where he led budgeting, variance analysis, and custom dashboard development across 30+ reports. He holds a BS in Finance from Indiana University and is a Microsoft Certified Data Analyst Associate.

Wade Chitwood
Senior Manager, Customer Success, EBM

Wade has over 10 years of experience in accounting and finance, primarily in the private middle market. At EBM, his role is to utilize Catalyst and EBM technology to address each client’s unique needs, helping them achieve their business objectives and maximize the value of the tools available to them.

David Brain
Financial Analyst, EBM

David brings a hands-on, analytical approach to financial modeling, reporting, and dashboard development. At EBM Software, he supports clients by building actionable financial insights through Catalyst and customized Power BI solutions. With a strong foundation in data structuring, KPI development, and Excel-based analysis, David helps finance teams translate complex data into clear, decision-ready narratives. Prior to joining EBM, David completed an investment banking internship at Hennepin Partners, where he contributed to six active deals and deepened his expertise in middle-market M&A. He holds a BS in Finance from the University of Minnesota.

Timing:

  • Workshops begin promptly at 8:00 AM and conclude by 4:00 PM local time.
  • We recommend arriving by 7:45 AM to enjoy breakfast and connect with fellow attendees before we get started.

  • A laptop is recommended, especially for Power BI and Catalyst working sessions.
